Stirman's Folly

Historical marker location:
Owensboro, Kentucky
( 519 Locust St., Owensboro)

This imposing Victorian structure built circa 1860 by Dr. William Doswell Stirman, who was a successful physician. Received its name because he spent a fortune building it. In 1915, Samuel R. Ewing, civic leader and tobacco farmer, purchased and remodeled the house. He entertained Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross, and other notables here.
