Albert Smith Marks birthplace site, October 16, 1836. Moved to Tennessee at age 19. Served as the 24th governor of that state, 1879-81, following distinguished service in Civil War. Enlisted early in the Confederacy, rising to rank of colonel. Battle of Perryville, 1862. Severely wounded Battle of Murfreesborough, December 31, 1862. "One of best officers in division.".
