For Richard Clough Anderson, Jr., 1788-1826. Served in Ky. Legis. three terms. Elected Congress, 1817, for two terms. Returned Ky. Legis., 1822, chosen Speaker. Appointed Minister to Colombia by Pres. Monroe, 1823, where he negotiated first treaty with a South American nation, 1824. Interred, "Soldier's Retreat," family home, near Middletown, Ky.

The famous Hatfield-McCoy feud, a long-running and violent conflict between two Appalachian families, began in Kentucky in the late 19th century.
