Reburn, Thomas, Polygonal Barn

Off IA 26, New Albin, IA

One of four known Iowa round barns built with a flat or near flat roof. This barn is distinguished by the central silo which extends above the nearly flat roof. Shows the great variety and personal expression found within the round barn thematic group during the peak construction years, 1910-1920.

The Reburn family has owned this barn since its construction. The 1979 Mail Questionaire cites its original use as that of a beef cattle barn. As late as 1976 it was still a beef cattle barn, with an open plan, feed trough around the central silo, and a capacity to feed 50 head of cattle at one time.

Local significance of the building:
Agriculture; Engineering
