Milford New Century Club

6 S. Church Ave., Milford, DE

The Milford New Century Club building has served many purposes in its history. It was originally built as a private school in Milford and helped to continue a long history of private academies in the town that dates back to the beginning of the nineteenth century and the founding of the Milford Academy (K-1694.95 and K-174), before 1810. With its purchase by the New Century Club in 1905, the building has continued to serve the community by housing an organization committed to providing an opportunity for Milford women to share their interest in "literature, music, art, and current events" and to "foster intellectual civic development."

Besides its significance as a community center, the New Century Club is also significant as an institutional example of a late Gothic building with classical elements such as a full cornice, window heads, and the use of classical motifs on the bargeboard. It is the only one of its kind surviving in Milford.
