Captain Adams House

a.k.a. Stone House

In 1849 Captain James J. Adams purchased a tract of land on the Eastern Shore and shortly afterward constructed a raised cottage as a summer home. Adams was a steamboat captain, one of his commands being the Cahawba of 145 tons. Adams entertained Millard Fillmore at his home in 1850, when the ex-president toured the bay area by boat. Adams died shortly thereafter in 1855. Thereafter the house passed through a succession of property owners. The Stone's acquired the house in 1971.
