Taylor #1 Cemetery

Location: Driving Directions:From FM 229/FM 2544 junction, go 3.2 miles west on FM 2544/CR 2210 (Note: FM 2544 becomes CR 2210 at end of pavement). From end of pavement, where FM 2544 ends and CR 2210 begins, it is approx. 0.9 mile west to private road. Turn left into gated, private road and go 0.6 mile south. Cemetery is located in woods approx. 240 ft. southwest of private road (and Taylor Cemetery #2). Cemetery is enclosed by chain link fence and is maintained.This cemetery is fully fenced and appears to be seasonally maintained. A chain link fence encloses the cemetery. Cemetery features include formal headstones, an obelisk, and cedar marker trees. The cemetery is located on private property, in a remote, heavily wooded area. There are no signs indicating a cemetery at this location. The Taylor #2 (Taylor Plantation Cemetery) is located approx. 273 ft. northeast of the Taylor Family Cemetery.

To address the problem of cemetery destruction and to record as many cemeteries as possible, the Texas Historical Commission offers the Historic Texas Cemetery designation.

The Historic Texas Cemetery designation was developed in 1998 to help protect historic cemeteries by recording cemetery boundaries in county deed records to alert present and future owners of land adjacent to the cemetery of its existence. Every county in Texas has at least one cemetery designated as a Historic Texas Cemetery through this program. The HTC designation is the first step toward preservation of a historic cemetery.

A cemetery is eligible for designation if it is at least 50 years old and is deemed worthy of recognition for its historical associations. The very nature of a cemetery being a landmark of a family’s or community’s presence is considered to validate the criteria of historical associations. Any individual, organization, or agency may submit a request for designation.
