Location: Driving Directions:From Loop 304 in Crockett, go 1.6 miles west on SH 7. Turn left onto CR 3020 (cemetery sign posted) and go 0.9 mile south-west. Turn left at gate, which has a cemetery sign, and go 0.3 mile south. The road dead ends at cemetery.The cemetery is moderately endangered. It is not a map feature, and it is located on private property. However, there are cemetery signs posted on SH 7 and on the entry gate to the cemetery. The cemetery is fully fenced, but there are gaps that allow livestock to enter. Many of the markers are fallen, leaning, or damaged due to grazing livestock, falling tree limbs, and subsiding earth. The cemetery is seasonally maintained. Cemetery features include ceramic photographs, homemade concrete markers, locally cast markers, metal funeral markers, folk gravestones, and floral decorations. Not all of the graves are oriented in the same direction.

To address the problem of cemetery destruction and to record as many cemeteries as possible, the Texas Historical Commission offers the Historic Texas Cemetery designation.

The Historic Texas Cemetery designation was developed in 1998 to help protect historic cemeteries by recording cemetery boundaries in county deed records to alert present and future owners of land adjacent to the cemetery of its existence. Every county in Texas has at least one cemetery designated as a Historic Texas Cemetery through this program. The HTC designation is the first step toward preservation of a historic cemetery.

A cemetery is eligible for designation if it is at least 50 years old and is deemed worthy of recognition for its historical associations. The very nature of a cemetery being a landmark of a family’s or community’s presence is considered to validate the criteria of historical associations. Any individual, organization, or agency may submit a request for designation.
