The Carson Brewing Company's 1864,''two story building is nominated for its local significance in three areas', local industry, social significance and architecture. The brewery began operation about 1862 (First Directory of Nevada Territory) and became an important economic part of the capitol community until the brewery ceased operation in 1948.

The 1864 portion served the community in a social sense as being a saloon on the first floor and a meeting place for the Carson Lodge of the Masonic Order; the latter occupying the premises for 54 years,
Architecturally, the structure is one of the city's oldest and largest brick buildings remaining from Nevada's territorial days.
