Shaker Colony

Organized in 1807 as the Gasper Society of United Believers in Christ's Second Appearing. Last western colony to disband, 1922. Enrollment reached 349; acreage, 6000. Noted for silk and woolen cloth, furniture, tools, seeds, preserves and purebred stock.
